I have decided to go a step farther and commemorate my kick butt ladies all month long by celebrating International Women’s Day featuring Women of Inspiration series.
What is International Women’s Day
Today, March 8th is the day we celebrate International Women’s Day, so what exactly does this mean? The explanation is taken directly from the IWD’s website:
…a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since in the early 1900’s and this year’s campaign theme is #BeBoldForChange. The call to action is to create a global realization that each one of us can be a leader within ‘our own spheres of influence by taking bold pragmatic action…we can help women advance and unleash the limitless potential offered to economies the world over.’
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” Gloria Steinem. International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level.
